3 million is the new single from Violet’s forthcoming album “White Night”.
A lyrical and sonic response to the state of current events, 3 Million draws on the story of the Hindu Goddess Kali and delivers it through flashing tv screen images.
Using tape delay and audio manipulation, the song opens with a distorted vocal reminiscent of 40’s war propaganda or Jim Jones’ suicide raids, next there is an impending, tribal rhythm section and a jagged riff inspired by Gang of Four. The song settles into a driving groove and then into a syncopated rhythm that tips its hat to reggae and a slightly off kilter interplay reminiscent of Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World.”
